Coastal Erosion – Machir Bay

PROJECT
OVERVIEW

Coastal erosion is the breaking down and removal of coastal materials by the sea. Coupled with climate change, this can have acute destructive effects in inhabited area, leading to the need for flood defences and expensive mitigation efforts. In outlying areas, unquantified and unnoticed erosion can lead to habitat loss for numerous coastal species, as well as potentially damaging modification of water movements to other areas. Targeted photogrammetry surveys, both above and below the water, can show the speed and trajectory of coastal erosion in great detail, and can act as part of conservation management strategies.
